San Agustinillo

San Agustinillo is in the Zipolite area of Oaxaca and is a tiny little town with a fun but inconsistent surf break, a good swimming area of the beach, and very mellow attitude.  It’s possibly the most dog friendly place we’ve been on the trip so far and Ted gave his stamp of approval along with a giant grin.

We’d really enjoyed the slow down to spend 4 days at Terraza de la Tierra so we were happy to continue the slow down and spend a whole week.  But the real reason for spending a week was that we’d learned at Terraza that the DMV had mailed our truck title to our San Francisco address a week prior.  It should arrive any day and FedEx should get it to us before we departed San Agustinillo.  The week went by very quickly.

We did a day trip down to La Bocana, the closest “major” surf break and contrary to the forecast it was completely blown out with a whipping wind that pelted us with sand even when we were well off the beach.  We also went to Zipolite beach which is clothing optional and I was wildly amused that Nina didn’t notice at all that some people didn’t have clothes on.

Most days we just rolled down to the San Agustinillo beach and played.  Nina got really good at body boarding and Ted continued to worry about everyone who went in the water past knee deep.

This is a place that really left an impression on us, and we all hope that we’ll be back some day.  Highly recommended family vacation spot.

Regarding the truck title, it finally arrived to our friend in San Francisco who is monitoring our mail on the day we departed San Agustinillo, a full 2 weeks after the DMV supposedly mailed it.  From Sacramento.  A very old person could have walked it to San Francisco faster.

Ideally we would have made our next stop, San Cristobal de las Casas, a quick stop but instead we booked a 5-night stay so the title could hopefully deliver from FedEx.  With no title we would not be able to enter Guatemala so we had little choice.
