Guadalajara

We stopped for just one night in Guadalajara on the way to the butterfly sanctuary.  Dmitri’s dad has a friend who lives in Guadalajara and recommended a great restaurant in Tlaquepaque right on a famous market.  We went there first for a delicious meal and some light shopping during which Nina got 3 hand-made finger puppets.

We’d booked a dog-friendly hostel on booking.com in the Centro area, but when we showed up the lady said the room was too small for all 4 of us.   Out on the street – literally on the street just outside a tiny convenience store across from the hostel – at sundown, we got on our phones and started researching.  Nina played with the store owner’s daughter with her new finger puppets and her new friend’s toy mermaids while we found Hotel La Paz on iOverlander.   As we were leaving, the store owner’s daughter gave Nina one of the toy mermaids to keep.  Nina (upon suggestion, but willingly) gave her one of the finger puppets to keep.  It was adorable.

Hotel La Paz was marked pet friendly on iOverlander, but when Dmitri went to check in they said dogs weren’t allowed, but that they might consider it after they see the dog.  Dmitri went and got Ted out of the car and told him he had a big audition coming up.  As soon as Ted rounded the corner smiling, all 3 of the people at the front desk sighed a big “awwwww!!!”.  He’d passed.  We were in.

The room was NOT nice, but we could deal with it for one night.  We went back out after checking in and walked to the big cathedral.  It was a pretty sight, but we’d had enough of Guadalajara and were happy to head for the butterflies the next morning.
