Hacienda Labor de la Rivera

We’d become pretty agitated about the truck’s lack of organization.  Few things had a designated place, and those that did were not in it.  Unpacking and re-packing was taking way too long and involved hauling out way too many bags and bins and/or living without things that were stashed away in an inconvenient place.  It was not good for our marriage.  We decided to burn a couple of days getting our feet underneath us a bit better and found a Hacienda a couple hours from Tequila where we would have the space to pull apart the truck and re-organize.

What a great place!  There’s a playground, horses (Nina sat atop a stunningly gorgeous stallion – the first to do so in at least 3 generations on both sides of her family), and a very good restaurant.  It is an actual 400-year-old Hacienda.  Our room was massive, with at least 20’ high ceilings and floor space galore.  Damn cold though – a stark change from the blistering heat thus far on our trip.  Our cold weather gear came out, including poofy jackets, and Ted’s “jackets” and blankets.

It’s also very near Guachimontones, the only archaeological ruins of round pyramids, dating from around 300 BC.  It was a really cool day trip/hike up to those.

We ate a lovely Thanksgiving meal at the onsite restaurant our last night there.
